Peer Support Professionals play a crucial role in the recovery journey by offering support based on shared experiences. Upholding ethics, confidentiality, and boundaries is essential to maintaining trust and fostering a safe, respectful environment. This module covers the ethical principles guiding peer support, the importance of confidentiality, and strategies for setting and maintaining appropriate boundaries.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand Ethical Guidelines: Identify and explain the core ethical principles that govern the behavior of Peer Support Professionals, including respect, integrity, and non-judgmental support.
  • Confidentiality Practices: Learn the importance of confidentiality in peer recovery, including legal and ethical considerations, and how to effectively protect the privacy of those receiving support.
  • Establish and Maintain Boundaries: Recognize the importance of setting and maintaining clear boundaries in peer support relationships to prevent burnout and maintain professional integrity.
  • Apply Ethical Decision-Making: Develop practical skills to navigate complex situations where ethical dilemmas, confidentiality concerns, or boundary issues may arise.

Requirements:  Participants need access to computers with internet access and video capabilities.  Reading materials, online discussions, questions and life work assignments will be required throughout this course. The online sessions need to be secured so arriving on-time is critical.  Full participation is required for the full certificate at the end of the course.
