Join us for Doors to Wellbeing's Peer Specialist Webinar Series - the free monthly webinar series providing certificates for all attendees.

This month's webinar is "Recovery Friendly Workplace: Program, Process and Benefits" presented by Lenny Burnett and Greg Young

This presentation will introduce to you the Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative, how to get involved and the positive outcomes it creates. RFW's exist in 30 states across the country and also have national representation through the RFW National Institute.  While programs run independently from one another, the core framework and process of what makes a workplace recovery-friendly remains the same. This presentation will also give Peer Support Specialists an insight to what it takes to operate this programming in addition to and/or in collaboration with the great work they are already doing as a peer.

Learning objectives

  • Define what makes a Recovery Friendly Workplace
  • Explain the steps in the certification process
  • List 3-4 the benefits to employees, organizations and communities
  • Describe how peers can get involved and what to expect

About the presenters:

Leonard Burnett, also known as Lenny, is the Program Director for Reentry Support Services at Unity Recovery. His journey has been one of resilience, overcoming mental health challenges and substance use disorder (SUD) to transform his life's trajectory. Leonard is dedicated to giving back the compassion he received. As part of Unity Recovery, he serves as a CRS, CPS, WRAP facilitator, and Forensic facilitator. From peer to Lead Peer to Program Director, Leonard now leads a small business start-up program supporting justice-impacted individuals in becoming entrepreneurs. Beyond Unity Recovery, he volunteers as a mentor with the Pa Prison Society, aiding in the reintegration of individuals post-incarceration. Leonard approaches life with kindness, uncovering his potential and inspiring others to do the same. His purpose is clear: to make a positive impact on those seeking support.

Greg Young is the Director of the Recovery Friendly Workplace initiative with Unity Recovery. He identifies as in long term recovery from alcohol use disorder, anxiety and depression for 6 years and counting. Born, raised and still living in the Chester County / Philadelphia area of PA, Greg has a wealth of diverse work experience he uses to inform the training and assistance he provides to employers as well as the support he provides participants in finding and retaining employment. He believes that the Recovery-Friendly Workplace framework is ideal for creating a healthy workplace and reducing work related stress because when we take the time to support our employees properly we see positive outcomes for them, for the organization and for the community as a whole. Outside of the workplace Greg enjoys photography, working with his hands, connecting with nature, and studying politics. He is driven by his desire to help others in everyday life and plans to continue to do so professionally for as long as he is able.
