The Copeland Center has now offered more than 40 workshops, facilitator trainings, and certified wellbeing mentoring courses on Taking Action for Whole Health and Wellbeing, and here's what we have taken away from people who have been in our co-facilitated workshops.

Empowering Self-Management
One of the key outcomes of Taking Action is empowering participants and the group to take control of their own wellness journey. By developing personalized action plans that include strategies from a Wellness Toolbox, a Daily Maintenance Plan, Triggers Action Plan, Early Warning Signs, How to Know When Things are Breaking Down, and a Crisis Plan, participants are equipped with the tools to manage their troubling feelings and circumstances. This process helps individuals feel more in control of their health and enables them to proactively address challenges that may arise.

Improved Emotional and Physical Well-Being
Participants experienced improved emotional and physical well-being. By incorporating simple, low-cost, and flexible strategies into their daily routines, participants can cultivate habits that support their mental and physical health. Whether it's establishing a consistent sleep schedule, eating nutritious foods, or engaging in journaling, these actions can contribute to a sense of well-being and overall health.

Enhanced Recovery and Resilience
Taking Action encourages individuals to establish plans for self-management that promote recovery and resilience over time. By identifying triggers, early warning signs, and crisis management strategies, participants can preemptively address potential challenges and mitigate the impact of crises. This proactive approach can lead to enhanced recovery outcomes and increased resilience in the face of adversity.

Increased Hope and Control
Engaging Taking Action for Whole Health and Wellbeing groups, participants share and increase their hopes for a better future. The groups provide them with a greater sense of control over their lives. By actively participating, they are increasing their awareness of their wellness journey and developing structured plans to address their needs. It builds confidence in their ability to navigate challenges and make positive changes in their lives. This increased sense of agency can be empowering and motivating.

Increased Self-Esteem and Connection
Taking Action increases self-esteem and connection by teaching essential self-help concepts and strategies. The group engages in wellness activities, all of which foster a sense of hope, empowerment, and self-determination. Both direct and indirect activities foster a sense of increased participant self-esteem. Self-esteem can affect whether we like and value ourselves as people. Enhanced self-esteem leads participants to feel empowered to work on their wellness. Enhancing self-esteem also leads to greater openness to connection. Building a strong support system and participating in peer support are key components that enhance feelings of connection and belonging.

Supportive Community and Resources
While Taking Action primarily focuses on individual self-management, the program also emphasizes the importance of reaching out to build a support network - which can start with the other members of the group! By involving trusted supporters, building relationships with care and service providers, learning to talk to doctors and self-advocate, participants can create a supportive network that can assist them during challenging times.

Taking Action offers a comprehensive and empowering approach to self-management and wellness that can lead to a range of promising outcomes for individuals, groups, and systems of care. By utilizing the structured action planning and group setting, participants can experience improvements in their emotional and physical well-being, enhanced recovery and resilience, increased hope and control, and access to a supportive community and resources. Through self-determinations, individuals can take proactive steps towards improving their health and achieving their desired quality of life. This program provides a valuable framework for individuals seeking to manage their health concerns effectively and promote overall wellness.
