Supervision & Support of the Peer Specialist- Online

Fist bump

Peer Support can increase self-sufficiency, self-esteem, empowerment, and hope. In addition, people receiving Peer Support services experience decreased psychotic symptoms, reduced hospitalization rates, longer community tenure, and decreased substance use (SAMHSA Value of Peers, 2017). However, key components are necessary for these benefits to come to fruition. One of these key components is effective supervision and support of the Peer Workforce.

In this course, we will explore components of effective Peer Support while gaining understanding of how we can provide support to the process as supervisors. We will discuss both administrative (needs of the agency) and supportive (needs of the peer workforce) components of the Supervision role.

This is an experiential course that requires active engagement to get the most out of the experience. Our facilitation process is rooted in mutual learning and collaboration to build connection and communities of wellness. We will engage participants through discussion and activities that provide opportunities for participants to apply concepts, knowledge, and skills raised by presentation.
