Purpose Statement – Committee of Statewide Peer Support Organizations

The Committee of Statewide Peer Support Organizations exists to strengthen and connect peer-led organizations across the country by fostering collaboration, communication, and mutual support. The committee serves as a national forum where established and emerging statewide peer support coalitions can share knowledge, exchange ideas, and build collective capacity to advance peer support in all its forms.
 

Our purpose is to:

1. Build national connection and representation by working toward participation from peer support organizations in every state and territory.
2. Share knowledge and best practices across diverse peer support systems, recognizing that states are at different stages of development in areas such as certification, workforce growth, and coalition building.
3. Support the development and sustainability of statewide coalitions by providing practical tools and resources for organizations moving from local efforts to statewide impact including through a “Community Toolbox for Coalitions” to help organizations learn from one another and strengthen their work.
4. Build stronger, more inclusive statewide movements by promoting unity across peer support communities through collaboration among mental health and substance use recovery movements (including, but not limited to family, youth, justice involved, veteran, LGBTQ+).  
5. Coordinate with related committees and national efforts to align priorities, reduce duplication, and amplify the collective voice of peer support organizations nationwide.

Our work is grounded in the principles of:

• Connect – building relationships across states and peer support communities.
• Collaborate – working together to share resources, solve challenges, and strengthen the peer support movement.
• Communicate – maintaining open, transparent, and ongoing dialogue with one another and with allied committees and partners.
• Comunidad, Conexión, Corazón (Community, Connection, Heart) – centering belonging, authentic relationships, and the values of peer support in all we do.
