Certification lasts two years, an individual is required to apply for recertification prior to the expiration date of original certification. An individual does not need to retake the exam if they complete recertification prior to expiration or within a year of expiration. Recertification is no longer an option 12 months past the expiration date and an individual must then go through the initial certification process which includes retaking the exam.

One must have one (1) year experience in a Supervisory/Director role with the inclusion of supervising Peer Recovery Specialist in the behavioral health, recovery and/or crisis support field, or;
One must be a MABPCB Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) for two (2) year, has successfully completed their CPRS RECERTIFICATION, AND have documentation of a Lead Peer role or direct supervision of Peer Recovery Specialists for six (6) months within your organization AND reflective in your current organization’s job description AND a letter of support from your current supervisor or;
Administrative/Clinical professional must have six (6) months in a supervisory position in the behavioral health field.

National curricula are used as well as curricula developed by organizations who are approved Education Providers.  They can be fully peer led or partially peer led.  Speaking for BHA and the curricula that we have developed, they are developed by peers.
