In addition to this training, Iowa Board of Certification requires a minimum of 500 hours work/practicum/volunteer experience specific to the domains of advocacy, mentoring/education. recovery/support/wellness and ethical responsibilty; and minimum of 25 hours of supervision.

What are the continuing education requirements?

PRS need 20 clock hours of continuing education during the two-year certification period to qualify for recertification.
Six (6) of the clock hours must be in ethics.
The remaining hours must be in relevant topics
No more than 10 clock hours may be earned through online/distance learning for each certification period. To receive college credit for clock hours a minimum grade of “C” is required. One semester hour equals 15 clock hours. One quarter hour equals 10 clock hours. If college courses are being used, an original transcript must be sent from the college to the IBC office.

The training curriculums (Family Peer Support Specialist and Peer Support Specialist) were developed by the Iowa Peer Workforce Collaborative through a grant from Iowa Health and Human Services which is a state agency. Training is fully Peer led for both trainings. Recovery Coach Academy and Ethical Considerations is provided by CCAR and is led by CCAR.
