Alternative Path Credentialing

Alternative Path Credentialing is for peers who already work in peer support. This path is appropriate for people who live and/or work in VT at least 51% of the time.

Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have lived experience of trauma, mental health and/or substance use challenges
  • Complete Intentional Peer Support (IPS) core training
  • Meet one of these experience requirements:
o 1 year of supervised peer support work (at least 1,550 hours); or
o 1,500 supervised hours over 3 years, with at least 500 hours in the past year

If you meet the above requirements, the following steps are required:

  • Take the Ethics Course offered by Pathways VT
  • Sign the Code of Ethics
  • Pass the Alternate Path certification exam (coming soon)

Once you meet the requirements and pass the exam, you’ll receive a credential. You’ll then apply for full certification through the Office of Professional Regulation.
