The recovery movement has signaled a shift in community mental health services from an era of segregation, stabilization and maintenance to one of integration, empowerment and participation. The facilitation of recovery, quality of life, and increased participation in valued roles in the community have emerged as the goal of community mental health systems and services. Community inclusion, and the fostering of increased community participation, continues to play an important role in the restructuring of supports and services within mental health delivery systems and in transforming policies, programs and practices and exciting new research suggests that increased community participation is related to greater feelings of wellbeing and recovery.
Through this interactive workshop, participants will gain personal tools for self-reflection on participation and tools to identify community inclusion opportunities in their locale.
