The Copeland Center Needs YOU!

The mission of the Copeland Center for Wellness and Recovery is to promote personal, organizational, and community wellness and empowerment. We focus on shifting the system of mental health care toward a prevention and recovery focus. As the system shifts to reform through education, training, and research we use the accomplishments developed and implemented by the people being served and the people who care for them. We reinforce this by building networks that reflect mutual support and community organizational empowerment.
Lofty mission statement – pretty words or do we practice what we preach? Working for the Copeland Center over the past 5 years let me travel and learn about wellness and recovery from many different perspectives and cultures. I witness people’s resiliency to move through difficult struggles and find their way to a better life. I hear stories of loved ones that teach me the rewards and challenges of supporting others. And I witness the ever-changing mental health system as it continues to recognize its most valuable resource – the expertise of all of us who know the system from the inside-out.
I was pretty sure we live up to our mission statement. Recently, ‘pretty sure’ became ‘sure beyond a shadow of a doubt’. My husband, Scott, was diagnosed with 2 life-threatening illnesses. As a result, my life shifted from being out in the world promoting recovery, to being at home supporting wellness. In essence, I am not able to do the job I’ve been doing for over 5 years.
The leadership of the Copeland Center, including the Board of Directors…
- Chose to live our mission internally,
- Chose to offer me the support I needed to be with my husband,
- Chose to support me to develop new skills that contribute to our mission in new ways,
- Chose to demonstrate what support looks like within a well organization.
I am very proud to be part of an organization that chooses to invest in people and recognizes that people need to be well to promote wellness. The Copeland Center, our Board of Directors and our partners throughout the world practice what we preach. Our mission is not pretty words on paper. Our mission is the WAY we do business. And the WAY we do business depends upon YOU.
A not-for-profit organization needs funding, volunteers and partners to reach as many people as possible. The Copeland Center needs YOU. Please consider donating at whatever financial level is possible. By doing so YOU remain an important part of our mission. YOU support people struggling with mental health to live their lives as active community citizens. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Gina K. Calhoun
