Ricardo Aguilar is President of the Dallas Chapter of Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA). He is someone whose family history of mental illness and substance use disorders has not only given him a sense of empathy, but has inspired him to learn as much as possible about behavioral health concerns and ways to facilitate recovery. His work includes raising awareness and educating the community about mental health by giving presentations, facilitating educational groups and managing peer supportive programs. He also works on community coalitions which provide a forum for community-based agencies and individuals to identify and address mental health concerns. These coalitions work together to bring these concerns to the public eye.
Prior to working with the Dallas Chapter of Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance he worked with Mental Health America of Greater Dallas for over 13 years as their Community Education Director. Mr. Aguilar has also worked with Merit Behavioral Health, Magellan and ValueOptions – all behavioral health managed care organizations. He worked directly with professionals, family members, people experiencing behavioral health concerns and advocates. Mr. Aguilar has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, CA. He is originally from Dallas and graduated from Jesuit College Preparatory School. He is a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity and former Board Member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness Dallas Chapter.
