H. Heart, president of Heart Resources on February 9, 2012 – 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm EDT.
This webinar will provide basic information about seeking grants for Wellness Recovery Action Plans. Grants can be found to: start or expand the number of WRAP groups, train facilitators, integrate WRAP into formal systems of care, and apply WRAP to other community programs that serve the needs of children and families, veterans, and other people with health and mental health issues. Participants will learn about the grant seeking process, basic proposal writing, researching potential funders, and resources for further study. WRAP Facilitators may be able to advance their careers by developing knowledge and skill in grant proposal writing.

This is a great opportunity for anyone looking into ways to fund a WRAP program as well as for people looking to advocate to get more WRAP into their agency or organization. It is ideal for WRAP Facilitators, administrators, volunteers, board members, and those using WRAP or those supporting others to use WRAP.

Katherine F.H. Heart, M.Ed. presented this topic at WRAP Around the World and offers an eGuide: Writing Grant Proposals for WRAP and Wellness Recovery Programs. Katherine founded Heart Resources, LLC, a social enterprise company dedicated to spreading wellness with grant projects, presentations and publications that assist nonprofits to solve challenging health problems. She received a master’s degree in health and physical education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1984. Katherine managed nonprofit programs in fitness/ health promotion and victim services for 15 years before she became disabled with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – her wellness story can be found among the Voices for Recovery at SAMHSA’s National Recovery Month website. In the past 10 years, Katherine’s efforts have earned millions of dollars in grant awards for health and human service organizations from corporate, foundation and government funders. She makes frequent presentations on wellness and grant topics. Her company participated in the consortium to develop the Health People 2020 Objectives and signed the 10×10 Wellness Campaign pledge. Katherine recently started a blog to disseminate a peer-advised physical activity program developed with the Steel Valley Council of Governments and funded by the Office of Health Promotion/Disease Prevention.

You will gain a deeper understanding of the recovery process and learn to:

• work with people who have mental health challenges to discover the  strengths they have and can use to enhance their recovery;
• effectively share the underlying concepts necessary to recovery: hope,     personal responsibility, education, self-advocacy, and support;
• work with individuals and groups to develop a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP),
• teach about wellness tools and strategies;
• empower and motivate people to work toward recovery – feeling the way     they want to feel, making their lives the way they want them to be,   and   moving toward meeting their life goals;
• use interaction and presentation styles and strategies that enhance recovery.

Thousands across the US and the world have trained as WRAP Facilitators and those people are changing the mental health system to honor people’s recovery journeys. This course models the behavior of a facilitator in a WRAP class and stresses authenticity and unconditional high regard, as well as a strong set of values and ethics to guide your work.

This training will take place at the Marlboro College Graduate Center in downtown Brattleboro, VT.
